Welcome to Watch Night News

We are happy to have you be a part of Watch Night News. The night of December 31, 1862, enslaved and free African Americans gathered to ring in the new year and await news that the Emancipation Proclamation had taken effect so their freedom could finally be realized. Here at Watch Night News, we are building upon this generations-long tradition of joy and resistance through sharing valuable information relevant to our community.

The 24-hour news cycle is both overwhelming and mostly irrelevant to Black folks and our issues. Watch Night News seeks to focus your attention on one topic relevant to the Diaspora, to keep you up to date and lift your spirits. We are a team of writers with churchy flair — led by the church secretary and the head deacon — who love Jesus and might curse a little. 😉

Our team understands the need to keep the faith, the importance of being informed, and staying vigilant in these unprecedented times. Here at Watch Night News, every night is Watch Night. Thank you for supporting us. We hope that you are blessed and entertained by what we do. 🙏🏾

Join our congregation!

Being a part of the congregation at Watch Night News Tabernacle of Praise means we will be in your inbox every night with our Diaspora-inspired perspective on news, history, and culture. Connect to our community by sharing our message of Watch Night year round!

Please encourage someone to become a Watcher on the Wall today! ✊🏾
